Rivers, Soil, and Iron: How geology laid the foundation for the development of the Saucon Valley
In this presentation, Hellertown resident and Lehigh Professor Frank J Pazzaglia, will explore human history in the Saucon Valley from the perspective of the geologic template upon which it is imprinted.  The reasons for the agricultural and industrial development, along with water power as an energy source in our backyard are all rooted in the particular distribution of rocks and the unusual steepness of streams for this part of eastern Pennsylvania.  The presentation will be interactive and include examples of the natural resources that have been used by humans in both pre- and post-colonial development of the Saucon Valley.
