Rivers, Soil, and Iron: How geology laid the foundation for the development of the Saucon Valley
In this presentation, Hellertown resident and Lehigh Professor Frank J Pazzaglia, will explore human history in the Saucon Valley from the perspective of the geologic template upon which it is imprinted. The reasons for the agricultural and industrial development, along with water power as an energy source in our backyard are all rooted in the particular distribution of rocks and the unusual steepness of streams for this part of eastern Pennsylvania. The presentation will be interactive and include examples of the natural resources that have been used by humans in both pre- and post-colonial development of the Saucon Valley.
Introducing "Dine to Donate"
Hellertown Historical Society introduces “Dine to Donate”. This will help the Historical Society to raise much-needed funds for the annual Hellertown-Lower Saucon Heritage Day, the next such event to be held May 24, 2025.
The process is easy, dine-in guests enjoy a great experience at a local restaurant with good food and great service, while a portion of the proceeds are earmarked for Hellertown Historical Society by the owner of the establishment. There is no change in the normal cost to diners.
The first such “Dine to Donate” takes place at Braveheart Highlands Pub, 430 Main Street, Hellertown PA 18055 October 16. 10% of all proceeds from diners between 5PM and 8PM will be forwarded to the Society. Only dine-in customers may participate in this fund-raiser. Online orders and take-out orders will not apply. Plenty of menu choices are available from Scottish and Irish fare to lighter choices such as burgers and chicken sandwiches to a children’s menu. Bring your families and friends for an awesome experience. Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling 610-838-6555. Hellertown Historical Society thanks Eric on behalf of Braveheart for their generous cooperation in this fundraising effort!
Watch for future “Dine to Donate” events upcoming in the near future. Please accept our sincere gratitude in support of this important venture.
